The real cost of studying abroad: what nobody tells you

Every consultancy quotes tuition. Few quote the total cost honestly.

Living costs: usually £1,000–£1,500 in UK cities, €1,000–€1,300 in mainland Europe. Kozhikode-to-Manchester rent shock is real.

Visa and insurance: ₹60,000–₹1,20,000 depending on country and family members.

Flights and arrival costs: ₹80,000–₹1,50,000 in the first month.

Return flights home: students underestimate these by half. Budget at least one per year.

Part-time work gap: most students don't find part-time work in month one. Budget three to four months of full living cost before you count on income.

Conversion and transfer fees: often 2–3% of the total, hidden in exchange rates.

A realistic one-year total for the UK in 2026: £33,000–£42,000 including tuition. Plan for the higher end.
